Maria A. Iliopoulou earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree in 2007 from the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at Michigan State University (MSU). In 2009, she earned a Master’s of Science degree in Comparative Medicine and Integrative Biology at MSU CVM on the topic "Quality of life in dogs treated with chemotherapy."In 2014, she received her PhD in Animal Welfare and Education and Civic Engagement at MSU. Her research, outreach and writing are focused on promoting canine welfare, animal welfare, the human-animal bond and compassionate veterinary care in the United States and globally. For the last 25 years, Dr. Iliopoulou has been actively involved and served in local animal rescue groups, animal control agencies and shelters in various countries.
